There is an important difference in how we consciously perceive our internal and external worlds. Most important to the development of self-authorship is the interactions of these two modes of conscious thought that produce metacognitive thought. In this episode, I talk about this theoretical foundation of metacognition initially proposed by Nelson & Narens (1994) and how it relates to both the pedagogical practice of metacognition and the structure of the book.
